All kinds of sadness in your sig pic. Its cool your mechanic is an honest guy, but pulling the heads shouldn't be too difficult. $7000 IMHO is not worth it to save your Z. I'd say try to find a used, low mileage TT engine and drop it in. JDM engines are cheaper, and typically have lower mileage than USDM, but typically more of a risk. I have put 30k miles on my JDM engine, with no issues. Either engine you choose do a leak down test, and a compression test. You could get all this down for under $2k.
